Department of Civil Engineering is one of the four departments of Government Polytechnic College, Tuticorin. Civil Engineering is a professional engineering discipline that deals with design, construction and maintenance of the built environment or public works as they are related to earth, water or in space.

Computer Lab

Computer Lab provides knowledge in AutoCad, Staad-Pro, MS-Project, etc. to the students and promotes them to develop the software and applications in a most efficient manner. Lab is well equipped with the latest computers, server with high speed internet connectivity. Guidance is provided to the students by a team of experienced faculty members and lab technicians.

Hydraulics Lab

The Hydraulics Laboratory is a state-of-the art facility used to conduct a variety of experiments pertaining to water. The laboratory is well equipped including various pumps, channels, various turbines etc. The laboratory provides operational engineers with the design tools needed to complete their tasks.

Materials Testing Lab

Responsible for materials testing of concrete, cement and aggregates in the lab and field. Operates Material Testing Lab, inspects samples and tests construction materials for complaince with plans and specifications on public works projects, performs field and laboratory physical tests on highway and building materials, analysing material failures to determine cause and recommend corrective action and prepares technical reports.

Survey Lab

The Surveying Laboratory is equipped with the instruments and tools that students use throughout the surveying course. Students learn techniques for gathering field data with both traditional and modern instruments and demonstrate their proficiency on weekly lab exercises and a comprehensive semester project. The lab includes modern equipments such as total station and also the traditional theodolite, dumpy levels, and level rods, tripods, tape and other common surveying tools and ancillary equipment.
